Jakes Creek Reservoir

Jakes Creek Reservoir is an irrigation impoundment surrounded by both public and private land. Access is provided through a county road running adjacent to the reservoir. The dam was built in 1966-67, creating a reservoir with a maximum surface area of 62 acres with a depth of 16 ft.

CLIMATE: As with much of Nevada's back rural back roads, conditions can change at anytime. Be prepared for anything. Roads can easily become impassible. Always use caution.

BOATING: Boating is permitted with a 5 miles per hour speed restriction, and is very effective in fishing Jakes Creek Reservoir. Float tubing is popular, and shore fishing is also effective. Most forms of bait such as worms, salmon eggs, power bait, etc, all work , along with small lures and fly fishing methods.

FISHING: Jakes Creek Reservoir has some wild rainbow trout that migrate from Jakes Creek to the reservoir, however, numbers are few thus requiring spring and fall trout stocking to meet angler demand. Rainbow Trout is the primary fishery with some brown trout stocked in past years to prey upon the rough fish present. Largemouth Bass have been established, however, numbers are few and they are represented only as an incidental catch.

Spring through early summer and during the winter ice periods is the most productive for trout. As water levels drop and warm up during late summer and early fall, trout become sluggish and less active.

Facilities: There are no facilities available and camping space is limited around the reservoir.
