TRAILHEAD: Jones Creek/Whites Creek Loop/Elevation 6200ft, highest point 8300ft/use mid June to first snow/difficulty is Moderate/9.25 miles round trip. From Highway 395 take Highway 431, Mt Rose Highway, west toward Incline Village. About seven miles up Hwy 431 you'll find the entrance to Galena Creek State Park. The trailhead is located in the back of the picnic area.

About the Trail: From Galena Creek Park trailhead you first travel for 1/2 mile on a fire road to Jones Creek. Cross the creek here and you'll see signs for the Loop Trail. You may go either direction around the Loop. Going right first, the trail is more moderate so we will describe the hike from the right. You'll hike first through a forest of White and Jeffery Pine. Soon you leave the forest and travel along the side of a sagebrush covered slope. You'll cross a ridge and once again enter the forest. About 2.5 miles from the beginning of the loop the trail merges with a dirt road, go left and follow it up the canyon for about a mile to the Wilderness boundary. From here the trail crosses White's Creek and follows the creek, on the north side, up the canyon for about 1 1/4 miles the then it crosses the creek again. You next ascend the south side of the canyon, you'll get a wonderful view of the canyon. At the ridge, which is about 1 1/2 miles up from the last creek crossing, a spur trail takes off to the west, this leads to Church's pond a half mile away. To continue the Loop Trail, turn left at the junction and you'll begin a 2 mile decent to Jones Creek.

Be sure to bring lots of drinking water! Beautiful views don't forget your camera. On all trails always walk single file, and don't cut across switch backs, to keep trails narrow and wild. Don't litter, Leave No Trace!
