Location: Take Highway 395 to the Mt Rose Highway (State Route 431). Go west. Less than 1/2 mile west of the Summit (there is a sign stating Summit 8911ft), there is a well maintained, graded, dirt road on the north side of the highway. Look for a maintenance building on the north side. Parking is available along the highway at the start of this road near a green gate which closes off the dirt road.

About the Trail: The trail climbs gradually from 8900ft to 9400ft. About 3 miles up the road you will see a pond on the left. Look to the right and you will see a trailhead signboard on the west side of a short saddle. Leave the road and follow the trail over the saddle, ( the road continues up to a telephone relay station). Trail now descends and winds across the top of Galena Creek drainage. Then it climbs a short, steep canyon, at the top you will arrive at a saddle. The Summit trail is marked by a sign which will direct you to go right and up a ridge. The trail over the saddle leads to the top of the Bronco Creek drainage. Be sure to bring lots of drinking water! Beautiful views don't forget your camera. On all trails always walk single file, and don't cut across switchbacks, to keep trails narrow and wild. Don't litter, Leave No Trace!
